Most of my life I have dreamed of living on the water. I bought my first waterfront home in 2006. It was after a brutal divorce. I had always enjoyed the calmness I felt when I was ‘on the water’ and the time was right to make it a priority. It was a good decision on my part and I continue to enjoy it immensely.
There’s a lot positive to be said about living on the water. The allure to me of waterfront living is the combination of natural sounds, smells and the view that can bring you to a certain level of calm. Add in the wildlife it attracts, the cool night breeze rolling off the water, or the soothing sound of a fish jumping provide a sense of serenity that is hard to beat. Because waterfront properties are diverse and offer so many wonderful options of waterfront living, there is broad opportunity to find a home to fit any lifestyle.
Certain attributes make waterfront living more valuable; A sandy beach for example, can offer a pleasant waterfront experience for the whole family to play or lounge in the sand and offers easy accessibility to the water. Most waterfront living offers spectacular views at almost any time of the day and in any weather condition. The luxury of scenic views lets you enjoy your waterfront property even as you might become less active. There is little to compare to the view of a sunrise or sunset over the water! Depending on the type of water you live on, can also mean easy access to water sports and other related activities. These obviously include activities such as boating, fishing, kayaking, wakeboarding, skiing, snorkeling and much more.
In real estate ownership, my research indicates the value of residential real estate depends on the location and physical appearance of the region. And, that’s not just my opinion. ( Google – Doss and Taff, 1996). Lastly, residences on the water are typically more desirable, of higher value and in limited supply than their non-waterfront counterparts. If these prospects are alluring to you, buying a waterfront property, be it as a vacation home or permanent residence is something to seriously consider.
